ARE YOU SUFFERING FROM DEPRESSION? STOP WORRYING.

If you have been diagnosed with depression, don’t be alarmed! It can happen to anyone. Be it children, adults or the elderly, depression is hitting every age group! So, don’t think you are alone!
Depression is an emotional disorder that affects your moods, the way you think, your body language and so on! There is a common misconception that people with depression are either ‘over-emotional’ or are going through a ‘bad mood phase’! Depression is something that cannot be wished away. It is a clinical disorder that requires proper treatment.
There are three major types of depression:
Major depression affects the life of a person to a huge extent. It interferes with almost all the activities one performs be it sleeping, eating, studying, working and much more.
Another type of depression is bipolar depression which causes cyclic highs and lows in moods.
The third type is called dysthyma. It is a less severe type of depression that keeps the person from feeling good about himself and also affects his physical function.
Depression can be recognized through a number of symptoms. But most of the people either don’t want to believe that they are affected or they are ignorant. People who suffer from depression experience continuous state of sadness, pessimism and restlessness further added to thoughts of suicide, guilt and worthlessness!
Depression can have a number of causes. It can be caused due to the negative circumstances affecting us or it can simply be genetic. Studies reveal that most people who lack self confidence are prone to depression.
The good news is that depression has a cure! Various antidepressants are available today. Lexapro and Prozac are the most popular ones. They are most prescribed antidepressants in the U.S. These work by increasing the supply of serotonin in the brain. It is a substance that elevates your mood.
Both these drugs are powerful in reducing depression and are well tolerated. Like all drugs, these too have their share of side effects. You might initially experience nausea, insomnia, fatigue, weight gain. But these are only short lived.
But you should be cautious to consult your doctor. Inform him if you have a history of diabetes, kidney disease, manic disorder or any other problem.
Depression is mostly misunderstood. You should not be embarrassed to admit that you are going through it. It is better to treat it than to suffer from it.
It is affecting millions of people around the world! What is required is an emotional and psychological approach to help people overcome the problem!
